Quick Share Guide

Step-by-step guide to sharing credentials securely using CredenShare's Quick Share feature.

Quick Share is the fastest way to send a credential securely. This guide covers the complete workflow from entering your secret to confirming delivery.

Using the Homepage Widget

The easiest way to create a Quick Share is directly from the CredenShare homepage. The sharing widget is built right into the hero section.

Step 1: Enter Your Secret

Enter the password, API key, or credential you want to share. The widget accepts any text content.

Click Generate Secure Link. CredenShare will:

  1. Encrypt your credential in your browser with AES-256-GCM — the decryption key stays in the link and is never sent to our servers
  2. Store the ciphertext with a 24-hour expiration and a one-view limit
  3. Generate a unique, unguessable URL

Step 3: Copy and Send

Click the Copy button to copy the secure link to your clipboard. You can now send this link via:

  • Slack direct message
  • Email
  • Any messaging platform
Treat the link itself as the secret. The key that decrypts the credential travels in the link itself — which is also why our servers cannot read it. Send it over one channel you trust, and do not post it anywhere it will be retained. For highly sensitive credentials, create the share from the app and add password protection, so the link alone is not enough.

Best Practices

  1. Set the shortest expiration possible — Don't leave credentials accessible longer than necessary
  2. Set a view limit for individual recipients — A one-view share is destroyed as soon as it is read. Shares created from the homepage widget are already single-view; in the app you can choose a different limit.
  3. Never share the link and password in the same channel — If using password protection, send the password separately
  4. Verify delivery — Ask your recipient to confirm they received and stored the credential
